Biographical References

In the antebellum years, Little Egypt was predominately a farming community who relied heavily on its educated leaders to speak for the Counties. Much of the frequently mentioned rebellion in the area was the work of a few key players in the community. Furthermore, almost all of the leadership in Egypt during the war came from politicians in the area, who had established a long and trusting relationship with the Southern Illinois residents in the antebellum period. In order to understand the events covered in this website, a basic biographical knowledge is required on Egypt’s prominent figures.
